Changes

godihateeveryone

So, as you might’ve noticed (refer to previous post), we’ve made a change around these parts! I’d like to introduce you to our new correspondant, Courtney, who is super cool and has awesome musical tastes. She’ll be around to keep things a bit more regular, and keep you up to date on the music I may not post, so everybody wins. She also runs a blog of her own, which is an ex-party photo blog turned hilarious celebrity gossip blog, you should definitely check it out – http://pyrofoam.wordpress.com

Thats about it, no proper update because I’m not listening to dance music. Here’s something different.

wassup

pp

Okay well firstly, hi. I’ve apparently been a ‘contributor’ to Surprise Junkies for like a week now yet have not made one blog post much to Josh’s annoyance, I think. I blame my sister; forever downloading Gossip Girl eps without any consideration for my own right to use the internet. Ugh.

Anyways here’s some nice chill-out tune that I’ve been digging for the past couple of days. If you aren’t aware of the global phenomenon that is Passion Pit by now, you’re an either an uncultured fuck or have been quarantined due to swine flu all year. I’m still not sure if I’m honestly into them all that much yet, but I’m keen on this new track.

Passion Pit – Moth’s Wings (Skinny Friedman DJ Edit)

This Skinny Friedman bro, if you don’t know, has got TV On The Radio & AnCo remixes under his belt, sounds cute. Here, have another related link.

Hype #2

6a00e54f7ac65c8833010535d8087d970b-800wi

It’s now been a little while since Breakbot joined the Ed Banger crew and the talk has settled down a bit. Nonetheless, it created massive hype and I don’t really understand why, which is the reason I refused to post this while people were going insane over it. Anyway, maybe it’s just me, but I’m just finding Ed Banger to be really tiresome lately? Mr Oizo is pretty much the only one I still have faith in at the moment. At the very least, I hope people can agree with me that Uffie is just a complete fucking joke. I’ve also never liked Busy P, but thats a rant for another time.

Anyway, Breakbot has always put out good stuff. “Penelope Pitstop” is no exception to that, with great basslines and laid-back old-school lounge-house style piano lines. Oh god, alot of superlatives there. Ahah. Anyway, enjoy this, although I’d kind of assume you already have it. Hopefully we’ll see Breakbot’s work get better, what with being coupled with Ed Banger and all. We can only hope for the best, right?

Hype

There’s no doubt that Classixx are great, I’ve loved them since their days as Young Americans. Kitsune too, is equally amazing, and always have been. So what I don’t understand is why they’ve downgraded themselves by getting Mark Hunter to direct this video? Firstly, he’s nothing but a party photographer, and not even a good one. Secondly, anything with his name attached to it just becomes another cheap gimmick. Just because he’s found a best friend in Steve Aoki, it doesn’t make him a seasoned expert on anything related to this. Bad move guys, really bad move.

Okay, good, thats out of the way now. The song is actually good! It’s the kind of charming indie-dance that can easily put a smile on your face, and reminds me a little of disco, too. It has been a recent source of hype due to the video and Cobrasnake connection, but it’s definitely still well worth having.

Bionic Commando

Bionic-Commando-Rearmed-1599

This has been going around the blogs for the most part of this month, and I couldn’t pass up a chance to post it for myself. Bionic Commando was an arcade game released in 1987, followed by a sequel on the NES in 1988. Back then it was basically an 8-bit platform game, in which you play as a commando with a bionic arm. The story was completely insane too. From what I remember, it was all about the Nazi’s trying to revive Hitler to take over the world once more. GOOD FUN, HUH?. From that point, there have been a couple of remakes on various platforms, and the newest release has just come out this month on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. It’s now completely different and is actually pretty awesome.

But I digress; after all, this isn’t a videogame blog (sometimes I wish I could do that). Now we get to the good stuff. The theme song of the original has been remixed by two dance champions, Surkin and Rusko. These are both fantastic, although with very styles, of course. I would say the Rusko version is definitely alot more interesting, given that it’s more or a complete rework, wherein the Surkin remix is somewhat of the same thing as the original, just dancier. But I’ll let you decide that one for yourself.

Riva Starr

rivastarrpressshot2smalsh7

Riva Starr is from Italy. Riva Starr is amazing. Riva Starr is playing Onelove in a mere two weeks.

In such a short time, he’s burst on to the scene with about a million and one great remixes and re-edits and is making his way as one of house music’s biggest up-and-comers. He’s especially cause a stir with his edit of classic hit “The End”. Apparently, The Doors don’t appreciate their music being tampered with in any way, and at one point demanded for the track to be put away for good. However, it’s back on the blogs and everyone is loving it. Here’s some great work by him to get you ready for the Australian tour. Make sure you catch his show, it’s sure to be amazing!

Drugs In Vegas

l_b3c411ce58cf4bd786f3d783c61d354d

Sorry about the lack of posts in the last few days, I’ve been busy having a social life, for once.

Anyway, tonight I’d like to introduce you to Drugs In Vegas! These guys are an amazing local band from right here in Melbourne. This four-piece plays their unique brand of indie-rock, incorporating great songwriting and musicianship, as well as a great flair for playing live. After playing for years in the local Melbourne scene, they’ve finally been given their chance, and no longer than a week ago, they celebrated the launch of their debut EP, “All This And More”, and it really was an amazing night, to say the least.

Their songs show great versatility, ranging between driving tracks with stripped-back guitars, upbeat piano and engaging vocals, to laid-back chillout sessions complete with accompanying xylophone lines. I seriously can’t reccomend these guys to you enough, so please check them out on thier myspace and also if you like what you hear, you should definitely fork out a mere $10 and buy their EP, which can also be found on their myspace.
