Mowgli

mowgli

Mowgli is one of those artists who has tried pretty much every style there is. Starting with hip-hop at an early age, progressing to big beat, drum & bass, breaks, etc. and then moving on to and settling down with house. Even today, so much of his work differs greatly, some stuff breaking into techno, downtempo stuff, even minimal-esque beats. That being said, his house side has always been my favourite and it’s what I’ll generally come back for every time.

He’s just released his Nu Skool EP, which is out now on Beatport, Juno, etc., so make sure you get your hands on it. Here is the b-side off that EP, which is, in my opinion, the best on the whole release. I’ve been playing this on repeat for the last month, and now that it’s out I’m so happy to share it with you all.

Minimalistic

This is the first post I’ve ever done about minimal and tech stuff. Not surprising, given that about 90% of dance music blogs invest the most interest in electro, house, indie-dance, remixery, mashups and blah blah blah. Honestly, I like minimal probably more than any other kind of dance music, but I’m reluctant to post anything about it because it gets such a small amount of attention in this ‘indiecentric’ world. Give a listen to these, some of my favourite minimal works, you might enjoy them even if your tastes don’t run that way.

Kiki – Good Voodoo

Santos – Hold Home

Alex Celler – La Palma

Pitto – Feelin’ (Dub Mix)

Joris Voorn – Sweep The Floor

Maskio – Human Jungle (Santos Re-Edit)

Kid Kaio & Lucky Charmes – This Sound Is

Fred Trumpet – Retteketet feat. Ted Clarinet

Analog People In A Digital World – Rose Rouge

Radio Slave – Grindhouse (Dubfire ‘Planet Terror’ Remix)

The Twelves – The Twelfth Hour

TwelfthHour

The Twelves have hit us with a one hour mix. After their growing success, bringing out remix after remix, every time working with bigger artists, as well as teasing us with some of their own work, they’ve become one of the biggest names on the internet and indeed, in real life. To top it all off, their debut album is coming out in January 2010, and it’ll surely blow us all away. In the meantime, check out the mix, sprinkled with just the right amount of indie-pop and dancy beats to keep you content for multiple listens.

Cassian / Empire Of The Sun

cassian

After alot of hype from his Miami Horror remix, Cassian is back for more with an Empire Of The Sun rework. You might say you’re sick of hearing Empire Of The Sun remixes, and I might tell you to shut your mouth. Seriously, Cassian brings a fresh sound on this track and gives it a nice twist. It comes out being really enjoyable, check it out.

Boys Noize 60 Minute Mix

boysnoize

We’re all keeling over in anticipation for the release of Power, so Boys Noize has given us this little mix here to tide us over for a little while. Since the release of Starter/Jeffer, the internet has been going absolutely nuts over Boys Noize and I’m left struggling to find anything left to say these days. I guess we can just all agree that once this album hits our ears, we’ll be going nuts. Enjoy the mix and keep anticipating, you’ll be rewarded soon enough.

R!M!E / Fake Blood

rme

Remember, R!M!E? He remixed Mars a while back and got bucket-loads of attention, mostly due to Fake Blood using it in his Essential Mix. Now he’s back again with some more for you. A second Fake Blood remix, this time you’ll be hearing an edit of Fix Your Accent. Along with this, he’s chucked in a clip of a track he’s working on. Very different sounds on each track, be sure to check ‘em out.

Boy 8-Bit

boy8bit

I’m all a-dither about Boy 8-Bit coming to Australia in the coming months (november, Melbourne Cup Eve). He’ll be playing at the next Strobe party alongside Feadz (who I honestly don’t care too much about), and it’s sure to be a massive night. Boy 8-Bit has been doing a lot of great work recently, especially with so many people hyped up after the release of ‘Baltic Pine.’ If you’re a Melbourne fella/lady, make sure you get on down to this show.

Pablo Decoder / Lazy Jay

pablodecoder

This ain’t too new, but I’ve been waiting a while for some more stuff from Lazy Jay and I figured I’d post this anyway. Pablo Decoder brings you a very decent remix, still keeping it on the tech-house side of things, perhaps a little more minimal sounding then the original. Worth a listen, so grab it up if you haven’t yet.

Franz Ferdinand / Lee Mortimer

leemortimer

The king of fidget-house, Lee Mortimer, has remixed Franz Ferdinand for our pleasure. I thought the newest Franz album was a total bomb, but this remix is a definite winner. Upbeat happy-house to make you bounce around. Totes fun.

Decent-ish techno. This would be much better as an instrumental, trust me.
